Exciting news for Filipino travelers! Canada has just added the Philippines to its Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) program, allowing eligible Filipinos to enter Canada without needing a visa. This move aims to encourage travel and enhance relationships in the Indo-Pacific region.

Understanding the eTA Program:

For those eligible, the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) provides a digital travel document valid for up to five years or until your passport expires. Applying for an eTA costs CA$7 (around P300) and is usually approved within minutes, making it a hassle-free option for frequent travelers.

List of Eligible Countries:

Filipinos are among the eligible travelers for this program, provided they’ve had a Canadian visa in the past ten months and hold a valid non-immigrant or tourist visa for the United States. The eTA grants visa-free access to Canada for both business and leisure trips, allowing a maximum stay of six months.

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Argentina
  • Costa Rica
  • Morocco
  • Panama
  • Philippines
  • St. Kitts and Nevis
  • St. Lucia
  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Requirements to Apply for an ETA:

Filipinos can apply for an eTA if they have held a Canadian visa within the past ten months and hold a valid non-immigrant or tourist visa for the United States. Eligible individuals just need to apply for the eTA, which grants them visa-free entry to Canada for both business and leisure purposes, rather than getting a traditional visa. Filipinos who meet the requirements may reside in Canada for a maximum of six months.

Requirements to Apply for an ETA:

To apply for an eTA, you’ll need a valid passport, a credit card, an email address, and internet access. With these prerequisites, you can easily complete the online application process.

Aims of Canada's Visa-Free Program:

Including the Philippines in the eTA program is a significant step in Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. It aims to strengthen relationships, improve travel efficiency, safety, and create business opportunities between the two nations.

Significance for Filipinos and Canada:

With a sizable Filipino community in Canada, this visa-free program enhances cultural diversity and contributes to economic growth. It also promotes tourism, family reunions, and business collaborations. Canada’s commitment to its relationship with the Philippines is evident through this visa-free initiative.

The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) opens up exciting travel possibilities for Filipinos to explore Canada hassle-free. This move aligns with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, fostering stronger connections between the two nations.
