Jonel Nuezca: Former Cop Convicted Of Murder

On Thursday, the Tarlac Regional Trial Court found Jonel Nuezca guilty of two counts of murder for the fatal shooting of Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony.

 

In December 2020, a video of the cold-blooded murder after the heated argument due to “boga” explosion. It was posted by a relative and shared on Facebook that went viral. The murderer was Nuezca, and the victims were a man and a woman named Sonya Gregorio, 52, and her son Frank, 25. Both were unarmed. The video went viral.

In December 2020, Jonel Nuezca killed his neighbors Sonia and Frank Gregorio in Paniqui, Tarlac. The scene was caught on video.

Following the incident, critics called for an end to police brutality and impunity in the country.

Nuezca will now face the penalty of Reclusion Perpetua or up to 40 years in prison for each count of murder. Court order to pay the heirs of Sonia with P476,000. The court also ordered Nuezca to pay the same amount to the heirs of Frank and pay a total of P952,560.

In response to the conviction of its rogue members, the Philippine National Police said that it is not condoning any of its deviants.

PNP chief PGen Guillermo Eleazar said that Nuezca’s case would be a reminder that police are the protectors of the people, not their tormentors.

Jonel Nuezca has been dismissed from the police service and forfeited his benefits as a result.
