Moderna Vaccine – What I Experienced

In November 2, 2021, I went to the gymnasium located in Sudlon, Rizal to receive the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. This article will take you through my experience from taking my first dose of vaccine, followed by what happened during the next day, and finally how I feel now.

What is Moderna?

The Moderna CODV-19 vaccine, known as mRNA-1273 and sold under the brand name Spikevax, is a CODV-19 vaccine developed by American company Moderna, the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

How does Moderna work?

Many vaccines are created by weakening a germ or inactivating it and then putting it into people’s bodies. mRNA vaccines work differently. Scientists create mRNA molecules in the lab that teach cells to make proteins that trigger an immune response. That immune response—the production of antibodies—is how we protect ourselves from being infected by the real virus.

What convinced me to get vaccinated?

With proper research, I was finally convinced to get vaccinated. At first, I was hesitants to get vaccinated because of the unexpected effect it would have on my body. I said at first “Why should I get vaccinated if my body is okay and strong?” There are brands of vaccines that I don’t like like Sinovac that are developed from China so I’m not convinced. BHW came to the house three times to ask me if I would get vaccinated, and I was convinced at that time. This is because it has been made the primary requirements in establishments and is free. So I grabbed it too. So that I don’t have difficulty when traveling.

What did I experience?

During the first dose of my vaccine, the day after, the area where I was injected hurt. The type that only a little sagi will hurt. That took two days and then it was okay. During the second dose of my vaccine, there was pain but it was minimal, unlike my first dose. I did not feel any headaches or other common cold symptoms.

My Final Thoughts on the Experience

In short, I am extremely grateful to have been given such an incredible opportunity. That being said, my feelings towards moderna medicine, vaccines and immunology in general haven’t changed much since my first experience with Moderna – it is still very much something that requires research and understanding of how each individual reacts to different things.
