More than a year ago, the pandemic forced us to put our lives on pause. We’ve all been longing for a return to normalcy and the freedom we once took for granted. As the world changed around us, I found myself yearning for the great outdoors. That’s when I stumbled upon Mount Zion in Occidental Mindoro—a place where you can escape the confines of quarantine and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature once more.

Mount Zion, nestled in the heart of Sto. Niño, Rizal, is often referred to as “Mindoro’s Chocolate Hills.” Despite its remarkable resemblance to Bohol’s famous Chocolate Hills, it remains relatively undiscovered by most. What sets it apart is its ability to offer breathtaking views of both sunrise and sunset, creating a captivating experience that seems to make time stand still and all of life’s worries fade away.

The Beauty of Mount Zion:

The true charm of Mount Zion lies in its ability to provide awe-inspiring views of sunrise and sunset. Being a morning person, I knew that witnessing the sunrise from these hills would be an unforgettable experience. Equally enchanting is the moment when the sun begins its descent, casting an ethereal glow over the landscape. During these moments, time seems to come to a halt, and the troubles of the world seem to disappear.

Perfect Timing

To make the most of this natural wonder, it’s best to visit Mount Zion between 5 and 8 in the morning or 4 and 6 in the evening. During these hours, the sky becomes a canvas, with vibrant shades of orange, pink, and gold painting a breathtaking picture. The hills come alive as the sun gracefully rises or sets, creating captivating shadows and an enthralling spectacle.

The tranquil atmosphere provides the perfect backdrop for relaxation and rejuvenation of the body, mind, and soul. I found solace in leisurely walks along the trails, inhaling the fresh mountain air, and letting the serenity of nature wash over me.

For the adventurous souls, Mount Zion offers thrilling bike trails. The undulating terrain challenges cycling enthusiasts and immerses them in the environment in a dynamic way. I couldn’t help but feel more alive as adrenaline coursed through my veins and the wind tousled my hair.
