Niel Jon Salcedo, a Filipino pianist has taken to social media to share a video of him playing his more than 20-year-old piano in a living room filled with knee-high-deep floodwaters from super typhoon Odette.
Filmed by himself and posted to his Facebook wall on Thursday, Salcedo’s video has been viewed more than 700 thousand times where it soon went viral.
“My 20+ year old piano. Probably my last time playing this piano before it gets junked . Effect kaayo ang baha ug ulan sa background. Bagyong Odette please stop na “ he captioned on the video.
Niel Jon Salcedo said that the piano had sentimental value to him because it was a gift from his parents when he was five years old. When the piano could no longer be salvaged, he said, it was too heavy to be carried to the second floor of their house.
Today, he is in an evacuation center with his family, who are safe.
Despite the tragic incident Niel’s family still celebrated his birthday and were extremely grateful for their safety.
“Despite the recent happenings, we are still thankful to God that we are all safe and we celebrate your life. “
A hundred families in Cagayan de Oro were evacuated from their homes on December 16 because of rising floodwaters. Many major roads and highways, including some that connect Cagayan to nearby municipalities, were inaccessible.
