YouTube will hide how many people dislike a video on its website. Starting today, this change will be apparent across YouTube’s site. YouTube is changing its reacting system to keep smaller creators safer from harassment.

YouTube’s experiments revealed that hiding dislike counts helped to reduce the amount of dislike attacking behavior. The company also found that this type of activity is more likely to occur on smaller channels.

One of the most disliked videos on the site is YouTube’s own annual recap video, which has sparked so much ire that the company has decided to cancel its next release.

YouTube has confirmed that creators will still be able to see the number of dislikes their videos get in YouTube Creator Studio, the company will still let users dislike videos to help improve their algorithm.

YouTube has been working to create an inclusive and respectful environment for creators, and in a recent statement they outline their plans to continue to protect them from harassment.

“We want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves. This is just one of many steps we are taking to continue to protect creators from harassment. Our work is not done, and we’ll continue to invest here,”
